These “Expo Dollars” were issued to celebrate the Bicentenary World Expo held in Brisbane from April 30th to October 30th, 1988. Â The obverse of each note features the iconic Expo sun sails logo, symbolising the event’s entertainment offerings, while the reverse displays a globe grid logo.
These banknotes were legal tender only within the Expo grounds and during its duration. Printed by the prestigious American Bank Note Company, these notes are a fascinating piece of Australian history.
